BIAW, ROII and Master Builders Pierce support SkillsUSA State Championship

Members of the Master Builders Association of Pierce County, BIAW and ROII staff supported the TeamWorks carpentry and cabinetmaking competitions at SkillsUSA State Championship on March 22 at Clover Park Technical College.

BIAW Education and Workforce Development Director Al Audette serves as Carpentry Technical Chair for Washington. He worked with ROII Field Representative Jesse Balbin to secure all the supplies.

Master Builders Pierce member Alan Rainwater from JK Monarch Fine Homes served as Carpentry Safety Lead. Balbin and Master Builders Pierce Building Opportunities for Learning the Trades (BOLT) Vice Chair Jason Rasmus of American NW Homecraft helped out as carpentry judges.

BOLT Trustee Linda Jadwin of Kitchen Tune-up Tacoma, Shane Beck from Contract Furnishings Mart and Marc Englert of Andrew’s Fixture Co. all judged the cabinetry competition.

BOLT Executive Director Alex Harrington and BIAW First Vice President/Treasurer Kent Arola joined the group to help out as needed.

Winners advance to nationals

 

Students from Pierce County Skills Center win gold with Al Audette
Students from the Pierce County Skills Center won the Gold Medal in Carpentry.

The SkillsUSA team from the Pierce County Skills Center won the Gold Medal in the Carpentry Competition. The team from Touchet High School near Walla Walla won Silver and Chelan High School won the Bronze.

Students from Auburn Riverside High School, Rogers High School in Puyallup and WF West High School in Chehalis won the Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals in Cabinetry respectively.

These students now advance to the SkillsUSA National Competition in Atlanta, Georgia, June 24-28.
