We need your help to shape future building codes

The Washington State Building Code Council continues to seek volunteers to help shape future building codes for Washington. This is your chance to infuse common sense into Washinton’s building code process.

While the 2021 Codes just went into effect on March 15, 2024, it’s time to review the new model construction codes released by the International Code Council in December and recommend updates again.

As part of the process, the SBCC appoints experts and interest group representatives to join Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) to help the council:

• Review code change proposals as requested by the SBCC or a standing committee;
• Provide information;
• Identify proposed changes that economically impact small businesses, housing affordability, construction costs, etc. to refer to Workgroup on Economic Impact; and
• Conduct research as requested by the council or a standing committee.

Don’t miss this chance to influence the next set of building codes to help improve housing affordability.

Expertise needed

The SBCC continues recruiting for the following TAG seats:

• Mechanical, Ventilation and Plumbing TAG:

• • Home builder
  • HVAC seat
• Building TAG:
  • Affordable housing
  • Manufacturer/supplier
  • Building owner/property manager

All positions are open until filled.

The SBCC says the 2024 TAGs will convene in May to begin reviewing the Group 1 codes. The review process will conclude with a report to the standing committees. The TAGs set a meeting schedule once convened.
