Meet 2019 Scholarship Winner Colby Tucker

BIAW is proud to award outstanding students in construction-related fields, apprenticeships and continuing education with scholarships. This year 18 recipients were chosen based on the applicant’s field of study, extracurricular activities, and building industry work experiences. Meet one of the recipients, Colby Tucker!

Year in School: 1st year, Junior by credits

Field of Study: Engineering

Scholarship Amount: $1,000

Hobbies: “I love to snowboard, camp, hike, ride dirt bikes, go to the gym and ride four-wheelers.”

Did you have trade programs at your high school?

“I think we had a shop class, but that was it. I went to Running Start full time, so I graduated high school with a diploma and an Associate Degree.”

What got you into engineering?

“My grandpa was an electrician and my dad is an electrical salesman so I have been around trades a lot. My friend’s grandpa is an engineer and I followed him around for a job shadow and loved it. In that job, you get to help a lot of people.”

Favorite part about engineering?

“The ability to help others.”
