BIAW Bulletin—Jan. 18, 2021: How to Testify on SB 5114 to Open up Washington into Phase 2

January 19, 2021

Hello and welcome to what we all know is the “Hammer with Himebaugh” —not the “BIAW Bulletin”—our weekly update from Olympia on the 2021 Legislative Session.

Today I’m going to show you how to testify remotely—and this isn’t just a drill. We’re going to need you to show up.

SB 5114

We’re asking you to testify in favor of SB 5114 in the Senate State Government & Elections committee at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, January 20.

This bill—a bipartisan bill—would move the state into Phase II of the Governor’s “Healthy Washington-Roadmap to Recovery” plan. The Legislature finally has the opportunity to weigh in on our state’s COVID-19 response and economic recovery plan.

And you finally have the opportunity, on the record, to weigh in and let legislators know the struggles our communities have faced over the last year.

Let me show you how to do it.

Virtual testimony in five clicks

    1. Then Choose “1/20/2021 8:00 AM” from the drop-down next to “Meetings”
    2. Select “SB 5114 – Reopening/public health”
    3. Click on “I would like to testify live during the hearing”
  • Then complete this form
  • And hit submit.

You’ll receive an email with a link to the meeting. Do not lose this email!

Then a little bit before 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning, log in using that link.

In conclusion

When you’re called on to testify, keep it short. You may be limited on time. But do ask legislators to support safely reopening Washington.

Our economy needs to work again.

If you have any trouble logging in or figuring out how to do it, email me at JanH@biaw.com and I’d be happy to help.

Thanks for stepping up for Washington businesses. And thanks for watching another excellent episode of “The Hammer with Himebaugh.”

There’s work to do and we’re doing it.
