The Construction Trades Training Academy graduated a third class of job-ready workers on Aug. 29. The group received their Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate Training (PACT) in Construction as well as their PACT Core and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10 certification during their eight weeks of training at the Goodwill Milgard Work Opportunity Center in Tacoma.

Launched earlier this year, the CTTA provides post-secondary students and transitioning adults from across the greater Puget Sound access to industry-driven training at no cost. The program also links participants to the information, education, tools and skills they need to thrive in the construction industry.

Partnerships and funding brings CTTA to life

The BIAW Washington Home Builders Foundation partnered with Master Builders Pierce's BOLT: Building Opportunities for Learning the Trades, the City of Tacoma, the National Association of Home Builders Home Builders Institute (HBI) and Goodwill Olympics & Rainier Region to bring the CTTA to life.

Major funders included:

·         City of Tacoma

·         Timberland Bank

·         The Milgard Family

·         The Norcliffe Foundation

·         The Woodworth Family Foundation

·         BECU

The next cohort starts on Sept. 22.

How builders can help advance the next generation in the trades

The academy offers plenty of sponsorship and volunteer opportunities for industry members, including guest presentations, mock interview participation, site visits and more. The academy also accepts material donations valued at market cost.
