On Thursday, Sept. 3, BIAW presented the Downtown Moses Lake Association (DMLA) with a $10,000 donation to support revitalization and beautification of Moses Lake’s downtown core.

The donation, which was presented by BIAW Past Second Vice President Nick Gilliland and Spokane Home Builders Association Membership Director Chris Anderson, is one of five contributions BIAW is making to MainStreet Washington organizations this year.

Reviving downtown

The check presentation took place during DMLA’s Coffee & Conversation After Dark event, hosted at Moore Brewing, an event that gave the community a chance to hear Moore Brewing’s story and learn about their experiences as a local business.

Gilliland and Anderson presented the check on behalf of BIAW to DMLA Executive Director Mallory Miller.

“It was such a nice surprise to learn we were selected to receive a $10,000 contribution from BIAW this year,” said Miller. “These funds will go a long way to help us in our upcoming downtown revitalization projects, including purchasing wreaths, new LED snowflakes and lights for the holiday season. Additionally, the funds will support improvements to Sinkiuse Square as we work toward a more cohesive and connected downtown core.”

The event drew a great turnout, with community members attending to support Moore Brewing and connect with other members of the downtown community.

“We’re proud to have this opportunity as it’s really a win-win for builders and the communities we serve,” Gilliland said.

Investing in communities we serve
Each year, BIAW, through its Member Services Corporation, awards five $10,000 grants to Main Street organizations in communities where BIAW members live, work and build. This year’s recipients, along with the local homebuilding association in their area, are:

• Downtown Moses Lake Association, Spokane Home Builders Association
• Cle Elum Downtown Association, Central Washington Home Builders Association
• Downtown Camas Association, Building Industry Association of Clark County
• Bainbridge Island Downtown Association, Kitsap Building Association
• Centralia Downtown Association, Olympia Master Builders

Giving back
Since 1984, MainStreet Washington, part of the national Main Street America program, has championed community-led economic revitalization. More than 40 Main Street programs now operate statewide, preserving local charm while driving growth.

In addition to helping Main Street programs thrive, MSC directors used the Main Street Washington Tax Credit Incentive Program to secure a $37,500 Business & Occupation (B&O) tax credit—75% of their total investment. The program allows any Washington business to contribute up to $250,000 annually to Main Street organizations or the statewide trust fund in exchange for a credit.
