While ballots are still being counted, early primary results put pro-housing legislators largely on defense heading into November. The central question is no longer whether legislators documented to be harmful to businesses can protect their existing legislative majorities, but how much those majorities could grow.

While the bulk of BIAW’s endorsed candidates from both parties are likely to advance through to the primary general election in November, builders face an uncertain future with continued overwhelming majorities of challenging legislators in the Legislature next year, and pro-housing candidates facing tough races. Look for a detailed update after election results are certified on Aug. 18.

The Washington State Supreme Court primary delivered some encouraging results, with four judicial candidates recommended by BIAW and Concerned Taxpayers of Washington advancing to the November general election.

• Position 1: Scott Edwards secured a spot in the general election by finishing second behind appointed incumbent Justice Colleen Melody.
• Position 3: Mason County Superior Court Judge David Stevens had the best showing, leading the field for Position 3 and advancing to November.
• Position 5: Retired Judge Dave Larson earned one of the two general election spots and will continue his campaign into the fall.
• Position 7: Todd Bloom advanced to the November election.

Builders and associates need to be sure to vote in the November 3rd general election.
