New small business relief grants available: Apply ASAP if eligible

December 3, 2020

The Department of Commerce (COM) today released the link for small businesses to apply for Working Washington Small Business grants of up to $20,000. The grants are designed to help ease the economic pain brought on by restrictions imposed to control the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to its press release, COM plans to distribute the $50 million in Working Washington Small Business grants, funded by CARES Act dollars, by Dec. 30, 2020. Businesses should apply by Dec. 11.

$50 million for specific small businesses

The state will prioritize small businesses with annual revenues of $5 million or less in 2019 and those most impacted by the recent public health measures, as well as businesses in sectors that have experienced significant, cumulative impacts.

The grants can only cover expenses or costs incurred due to COVID-19 and those necessary to continue business operations. The application includes an eligibility list with the specific criteria.

Remaining $20 million will fund previous applicants

As noted in a previous update, the governor announced $135 million in economic support to assist businesses and individuals suffering due to COVID-19. This additional $50 million in Working Washington grants is part of a total of $70 million the state dedicated to business relief.
